A stage is not a concert.

At a concert, the camera follows the music. In a stage piece it follows the staging: paths, images, pauses, the interplay across the whole stage. That’s why we first ask what the film should show, and plan the cameras from there.

Choreography & space

The whole stage and the single moment.

A wide shot shows the formation, a close-up the expression. We decide when which image carries the piece and agree on it with choreography or direction, ideally based on a rehearsal or an existing recording.

Light

Built for the audience, not the camera.

Stage lighting is designed for the eyes in the room. We work with the existing light and talk to the lighting team beforehand about where a camera needs some room.

Sound

Speech and music alike.

If there’s a desk feed, we use it as well. On top of that we bring our own microphones so voices, music and room sound in the film the way they do in the hall. We mix and master in our own studio.

Rehearsal & performance

Close, without getting in the way.

We agree camera positions on or next to the stage with the venue. Depending on the production, we film a performance, a dress rehearsal or both, and edit from that.

What the film is for.

Recording

The whole performance.

For archives, funders, revivals or applications to festivals and guest performances. Cleanly edited, with good sound.

Dance & stage film

A film in its own right.

For broadcasters’ platforms, festivals or release. With an editing concept, colour grading and a mix, just like a concert film.

Trailer

60 to 90 seconds.

For the season programme, website and social media. Shot at a performance, more on the live trailer page.

Same pricing as concert films.

Stage productions use the same three production tiers as concert films. The example calculations are based on a concert evening with 10 songs. For a stage piece, the effort depends mainly on the length of the performance and the number of cameras, so after a short call you get a concrete quote.

Blockbuster
"Cinema-level. No compromises."
Why no fixed price?

What a Blockbuster production costs depends on too many factors to quote a fixed price. The shoot alone – depending on camera setup, lighting rig, crane, drone and crew – can easily run into tens of thousands before post-production even begins. Add 2–3 months of editing, colour grading and audio mixing. The result is worth it – but it has to be budgeted realistically.

Let's talk

Frequently asked questions about dance and theatre films.

What does it cost to film a theatre or dance production?
The same production tiers as for concert films apply: recording from €5,800, film from €14,700, blockbuster approx. €40,000–80,000 (each incl. 19% VAT, sound extra). The actual figure depends mainly on the length of the performance and the number of cameras. After a short call you get a quote.
Do you film during a performance or at a rehearsal?
Both are possible. Camera positions on or right next to the stage would disturb the audience, so we often film those shots at a dress rehearsal and the wide shots during the performance. We work out what makes sense with you and the venue beforehand.
Do you record the sound as well?
Yes. If there’s a desk feed, we use it as well. On top of that we bring our own microphones for voices, music and room. Mixing and mastering happen in our studio, in sync with the edit.
Who takes care of the rights to the piece, choreography and music?
The rights to record and publish need to be cleared before the shoot; that lies with the ensemble or the venue. We bring it up in the first conversation so the finished film can be shown where it’s meant to be shown.

Besides stage productions, concert films and mixing live recordings are our two specialities.
